Easy Basil Pesto Cheesy Puff Pastry Christmas Tree recipe with 5 tasty twists to delight your holiday guests and make celebrations unforgettable

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (approximately 9×9 inches, thawed if frozen)
  • 0.5 cup of basil pesto (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Optional: a pinch of black pepper
  • Optional: a pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to cook the puff pastry evenly.
  • Unfold or roll your puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut off uneven edges to make a clean rectangle, then slice it in half horizontally to create two equal strips.
  • Spread half of the basil pesto over one pastry strip. Sprinkle half the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly on top. Repeat with the second pastry strip.
  • Stack one layered strip on top of the other, aligning edges. Cut vertical strips about 1 inch wide along each side, leaving the center intact to form the tree trunk.
  • Twist each vertical strip away from the center trunk two to three times to create the twisted branches.
  • Brush the entire tree with beaten egg wash to get a golden, festive crust.
  • Place the tree on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes until puffed, golden, and cheese is bubbly. Let cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.
