Ube Milk Bread is a soft, fluffy bread with a vibrant purple color and a subtle sweet flavor from the ube (purple yam). Perfect for breakfast or as a snack.

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup ube halaya (purple yam jam)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp ube extract (optional for deeper color)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, ube halaya, egg, and ube extract. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes, then add softened butter. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Shape as desired.
  6. Place in a greased loaf pan and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden.
  8. Cool before slicing.
