Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened (room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup sour cream (full-fat works best)
  • 1.5 cups fresh blueberries (rinsed and patted dry)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  • Alternate adding the dry ingredients and sour cream to the butter mixture in three parts, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix gently just until combined after each addition.
  • Carefully fold in the blueberries using a spatula, making sure they’re evenly distributed without smashing them.
  • To make the cream cheese filling, beat the cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl until smooth.
  • Pour half the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly on top. Then spoon the remaining batter over the cream cheese layer, spreading it gently.
  • Using a knife or skewer, lightly swirl the cream cheese layer through the batter for a marbled effect. Don’t overmix.
  • Bake for about 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs. Tent with foil if browning too fast.
  • Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
